Important Information about Tiers at Sid's Badminton Club in Queen Mother Sport Center and Christ's School

Here is Badminton England's guidance as to what is permissible in terms of playing Badminton by each Government Tier. The Queen Mother Sport Centre and Christ's School are currently in Tier 2 (as of Monday, October 19). Players living in a Tier 2 location may only play with Adults from their same household; I am afraid currently playing badmindintion indoor is not allowed and restricted until the restrictions withdrawn. Looking forward seeing you soon back in the courts.

Spectating at Sid's Badminton Club in Queen Mother Sport Center

Due to current social distancing restrictions, we are no longer able to allow spectators in the sport hall. As with all our club policies, this remains under constant review and we will keep you informed once we are able to lift this restraint.

A Return to Badminton

The important and essenssial information you need to know

First we Welcome you back to Sid's Badminton Club. I hope you are well and keen to return to play badminton. Things, I am afraid will be very different to what it was back in last year.
We are planning to reopen as of Tuesday, 1st of September with lots of changes as to how we operate.
The Centre has created a Covid Charter, which sets out the thinking and precautions necessary to keep everyone safe, check this link please Everyone Active Covid Charter in QMSC

We would ask everyone to read Badminton England's guidance on how Badminton should be played, which can be located through this link Badminton England Return to Play

Perhaps the biggest change and most essential thing we need everyone to understand before they come back is that all players must pre-register their attendance at any session with us on the form we will provide each week in this page. This is a requirement of the venue. Please do NOT turn up on the off chance there may be a cancellation/no show. You still will not be able to play that evening.

General Rules of Venue (Queen Mother Sport Centre) & (Christ's School) and book online

  • Perhaps the biggest change and most essential thing we need everyone to understand before they come back is that all players must pre-register their attendance at any session with us on the form we will provide each week in this page. This is a requirement of the venue. Please do NOT turn up on the off chance there may be a cancellation/no show. You still will not be able to play that evening.
  • You must book online and register with us for every session prior attending, Click on this link below to book the sessions in Queen Mother Spoprt Center, required details for session are compulsory.
  • You must book online and register with us for every session prior attending, Click on this link below to book the sessions in Christ's School, in Quenn's Road, Richmond TW10 6HW on Sunday's, required details for session are compulsory.
Please put your name forward as soon as possible as it makes it easier for us to plan the groups & give players their time slots.
  • If you are feeling ill or have COVID symptoms - do not attend and follow NHS guidance.
  • You need to arrive promptly for the session. We will gather as a group outside the venue and enter all together 5 minutes before the session. You must arrive at the venue changed and ready to play. Changing rooms will not be available before play - you can change footwear at the side of the court immediately before play.
  • Again Upon arrival, wait for each other outside, then with me Joanna or or one of Covid officers enter the building all together and make your way to the hall. This means for example: if we have 8 people playing for 2 hour, those 8 people will have to arrive together at reception, confirm the booking and they’ll be let through. QMSC would like to avoid players arriving one by one to stop various attendees clashing in the corridors.
  • If possible, after play leave the venue without using the changing rooms/shower facilities.
  • A one way system will be implemented for entry/exit. You will also need to follow this should yo need to is it the bathroom during your session
  • Hand sanitiser stations will be located in the venue but we strongly recommend you bring your own to have with you in the sports hall
  • If possible, after play leave the venue without using the changing rooms/shower facilities.

Current Venue rules re Badminton (adapted from Badminton England Guidance during Covid)

  • Each court booking can accommodate 1 group of 4 players. These 4 players will form a “bubble” for that weeks play. This means that all of the games you play during that session will be with/against the other players in that bubble.Single and/or doubles play is allowed as long as social distancing is maintained.
  • Do not make physical contact with other players in the same bubble. Either before/during or after play.
  •  Doubles marking can be used as long as that means you remain socially distanced from other courts and players.  If this is not possible, use the singles court marking, even when playing doubles.
  • When playing doubles, agree with your partner who will hit the shuttle in centre court.

Additional Guidelines from Badminton England

  • Sharing of shuttles within the bubble is permitted (assuming hands are washed/sanitised immediately before play)
  • Do NOT pick up shuttles from another court/bubble. Use your racket to pass it back
  •  Try to avoid touching or wiping your face during play.
  • Try to avoid touching other equipment (nets, posts). If needed, wash hands immediately afterwards following government guidance
  • Bring a full water bottle. Do not share food or drink with others; The water fountains have not been removed so you will still have access to those, only change is it is for bottle filling only as opposed to drinking from the fountain. Its recommended bottles are filled before you enter the hall to avoid players having to leave the hall once the game has started.
  • Equipment bags should be left behind your court at least 2 metres from your court or others players

Covid-Officers

We have appointed Covid-Officers who can help you out for any enquiries you might have during the session:

Currently they are:

  • Lizzie
